The Career
Development Center (CDC) in the
Division of Adult and Continuing Education at LaGuardia
Community College is a comprehensive adult career and employment
counseling center that provides services and programs to help adults
make successful career transitions.
We know that adults face several major career and
personal transitions during their lifetimes that lead to them seeking
counseling, education, training, or different employment. We are
committed to assisting them. Adults who participate in our programs
make thoughtful career decisions and plans, enter education and
training programs, seek and secure employment.
CDC has offered a wide range of
services to adults who would like assistance in making a career
transition, since 1986. We focus on serving adults who want to change
their careers, displaced workers, union employees who want to access
educational benefits, workers who want to be promoted, adults who
are returning to work, recent immigrants, retirees, and others.
In addition to our fee-based services,
the CDC provides career assessment, career counseling
and planning, training or education referral, job search skills
and job placement for diverse populations funded through a variety
of public grants and contracts. These contracted programs service
diverse clients, such as, welfare recipients, employees of the NYC
Human Resources Administration, recipients of Section 8 housing
vouchers, low-income employees, and dislocated workers. Working
closely with businesses throughout the city, the CDC prepares clients
to find employment, to successfully retain those positions, and
to move up the career ladder. |
