What
is CLIP?
The CUNY English
Language Immersion Program is for students who have been admitted
to a City University of New York (CUNY) college, but who want
to spend more time learning English before taking college courses.
Classes in CLIP are 25 hours a week. Both day and evening classes
are available.
What
will I learn in the Immersion Program?
Students in the Immersion
Program study reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills
in English. The goal of the Immersion Program is to help students
get the skills they need to succeed in college. Students do assignments
in class, research projects, and work in the computer lab. Students
also learn more about college and get help with financial aid
and how to continue their education in college.
How can
I qualify for the Immersion Program?
You must be admitted into one of the CUNY colleges, and you must
take the CUNY placement tests. Taking classes in the Immersion
Program is based on these test scores. A college counselor can
also suggest that you take classes in the Immersion Program.
How long can I stay in the Immersion Program?
You can enroll in
the Immersion Program for four cycles (or one year). You still
have your place in college during this time, and you will receive
help to start college courses when you are ready.
