LaGuardia Community College is a public institution with a history of serving students from diverse cultures. Its Program for Deaf Adults has been serving Deaf and Hard of Hearing students since 1975 and has been providing interpreter education since 1988.

The addition of Federal and State funding has enabled the office of Interpreter Education Projects (IEP) to provide educational opportunities for individuals interested in a rigorous academic program that will prepare them to become ASL-English interpreters (Professional Certificate BA degree Option) with special preparation for Interpreting in Educational Settings.
