Program for Deaf Adults
A student-centered program that is dedicated to developing skilled ASL-English interpreters who:
- make thoughtful interpreting decisions with confidence.
- can produce processed interpretations fluently.
- are self-reflective, able to identify their strengths and challenges, as well as their role in the communities they serve.
- are independent, life-long learners.
EDUCATIONAL OPTIONS
Our program offers you several paths to become an ASL-English Interpreter:
- Earn a BA Degree in Cultural Studies: ASL-English Interpretation, in collaboration with SUNY Empire State College. If you have an AA degree or two years of college and are fluent in ASL, you can apply for this rigorous two-year academic program, which allows you to take core credits for the interpreting major from SUNY Empire State College at LaGuardia.
- Earn a Professional Certificate, if you already have a bachelor’s degree or above, upon successful completion of the ASL-English Interpretation Program.
- Enhance your preparation for the ASL-English Interpretation Program by enrolling in LaGuardia’s Deaf Studies AA Degree Program or the Pre-Interpretation Program.
