Driver Education for Deaf Adults
This course is designed to enable Deaf adults to pass the Department of Motor Vehicles written examination. The instructor will make arrangements for students to take the examination. Students must be age 17 or older and possess a Social Security Card.
How to Make Your Own ASL Vlogs
Have you ever wanted to post your own ASL Vlog on the Internet? Learn how to shoot, edit and post your very own Vlog. Learn what makes a good Vlog, the best way to prepare your script and shoot your video clips, how to edit it, and finally, how to post it on the internet. Students are encouraged to create video clips using their webcams or digital video cameras.
Introduction to Digital Moviemaking Taught in ASL
Want to digitalize or improve your home movies? Learn how to give your videos a more polished look. This course, using windows Movie Maker or related application, will teach you the techniques you need to make your movies shine. You’ll learn how to plan, capture, import, and edit your movies. Students should be able to communicate in ASL fluently.
Introduction to Web 2.0 Taught in ASL
Learn about the new technologies, Twitter, RSS, Wikis, del.icio.us, social bookmaking, social networking and tagging, the Internet’s new and effective ways of connecting through web 2.0 technology. Become an active contributor, customizing internet technology for your own purpose, as well as your community. This course, taught in ASL, explains each of the technologies, how they are used as well, as the social, political and economic impact of each.
YOGA in ASL
Learn the fundamentals of yoga and get started on a safe and effective practice in this class, taught in ASL and designed for Deaf students. Yoga brings flexibility and strength to the mind and body, cultivating awareness and calm. Suitable for students of all physical levels.

For individuals looking to advance in the American Sign Language teaching profession by working toward the American Sign Language Teaching Association (ALTSA) certificate. You will reflect on your teaching experience and begin to gather information and materials to prepare your teaching portfolio. You will also prepare and video tape teaching segments in the language lab. All students will receive a copy of the ASLTA application packet.
ASLTA Preparation Workshops: Three-Part Series (Session III will be offered in Spring 2009)
ASL Portfolio: The Five Competencies
Build on your language skills and enhance you ASL Portfolio by exploring and examining the five main competencies of American Sign Language that allow you to live, learn, work, and be an active member of the community. The 5 C’s that will guide your course discussions are: Communication, Cultures, Comparisons, Connections and Communities. We will talk about topics revolving around you, your friends, people, cultures, places, things and events. A minimum of two years ASL fluency and involvement in the Deaf Community is required to register.
ASL Studies for Professionals
Learn how to build and strengthen your American Sign Language foundations. This two-day workshop is for teachers, interpreters, social workers, therapists, health care and service providers who have a minimum of two years of ASL studies. You will review linguistic features of ASL and perform assessment activities for skill enhancement. Topics will include phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and language in use. Prerequisite: minimum 2 years ASL usage.
