Jamaica from the Foothills to the Tracks (A05PEN913)
Central Jamaica occupies a narrow band of well-drained land between the terminal glacial moraine and the main line of the Long Island Rail Road and is the historical funnel for rail and road transportation eastward on Long Island. For much of the 19th and 20th centuries, Jamaica was the commercial center of Queens. The tour encompasses colonial vestiges still evident in street configurations and cemeteries as well as recent redevelopment including the Farmer's Market, the Archer Avenue subway, the Train to the Plane and the York College campus. Meets inside the "Food Fest" Market, 159-19 Jamaica Ave, ( E,J to Jamaica Center)

Flushing's Koreatown (A05PEN913)
CKoreans are the premiere small businessmen of contemporary immigration. Their center of gravity has migrated away from Central Flushing and is now sprawling east along Northern Blvd and to a "Korean Village" in the Murray Hill area. See surprising shops and dozens of churches. Ends with lunch suggestions, particularly the new "KFC". Meet outside St George's Church (NWcorner 39Av/Main St) one block north of #7 Main St (2 blocks north of LIRR).

The Ravenswood Waterfront(A05PEN913)
Walk the East River shore in Queens between the Queensboro and Triboro Bridges. Begin at Queensbridge Houses, America's largest public housing project, and head for the remnants of Old Astoria, the terminus of the 19th century 92nd St. ferry. The spectrum of sights includes increasingly oblique views of Manhattan's Upper East Side from three parks, a (former) piano factory, a huge power plant, a "big box" store, the Socrates Sculpture Park and the Isamu Noguchi Museum. End in Astoria with subway connections and eating suggestions. Meet at NW corner 41 Av/21 St (F to Queensbridge).
