Janice Kydd, Director, is a native
Brooklynite and a product of New York City public schools and both
the New York City and State of New York university systems. She
received a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics from Queens College/CUNY
and a Master of Science in Urban Policy Sciences from Stony Brook/SUNY.
An employee of LaGuardia Community College for over twenty (20)
years, Ms. Kydd writes contracts and grants to create and provide
training opportunities for youth and adults. Ms. Kydd is an avid
reader, a classic movie buff, a world traveler and an entrepreneur.

Adjoa Gzifa, Associate Director,
born and raised in New York City. A product of the New York City
public school system and a two-time graduate of the City University
of New York. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting
from York College and a Master of Arts degree in Urban Studies from
Queens College. Ms. Gzifa has been employed at LaGuardia Community
College for more than ten (10) years. She has provided educational
and employment opportunities for youth throughout the city. She
is a grants writer and an advocate for grant-funded programs. Ms.
Gzifa loves to travel and has traveled extensively throughout the
world.

Lorie Dimbarala Gumbs-Tyler began
working with the Workforce Education Center as the part-time Coordinator
for the W.O.R.K. youth program in October 2005. She joined the department
on a full-time basis in July 2006 to work with the Home to Work
Center for Displaced Homemakers, for which she is currently the
Program Coordinator. Ms. Gumbs-Tyler’s background includes
program coordination and development and organization development
projects in multi-service CBO’s. She holds a Bachelor’s
degree from Stanford University in Comparative Studies in Race and
Ethnicity, and she plans to obtain her Master’s in Nonprofit
Management. |

M"SHELL PATERSON

M’Shell Patterson began her work at LaGuardia
Community College in 1996 as the Associate Director for the Queens
Urban Partnership, (QUP); part of a sixteen city 10 million dollar
Urban Partnership Program (UPP) funded by the Ford Foundation.
In 1999 she also assumed the position of Director of the LaGCC/QUP
GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate
Program), a $7.5 million grant.
Ms. Patterson also served
as the Director of the Technical Assistance Center for the Middle
College National Consortium (MCNC) to create Early College High
Schools where students earn college credits towards a Bachelors
degree while still in high school. This initiative was funded by
Bill and Melinda Gates to the tune of more than $25 million dollars.
Ms. Patterson currently serves as an Assistant Director for
the Workforce Education Center and coordinates several programs
within that department. Ms. Patterson played an integral part
in developing the curriculum being used for the TUF/CUNY Educational
Preparation program.

studies in Mass Media and Communication and graduate studies in
Educational Administration at New York University. |
ALBERT CURLEY

Albert Curley, Counselor for Youth
Programs, is a native of Baltimore, Maryland. He received a Bachelor
of Science degree in biology from Coppin State University. An employee
of LaGuardia Community College since 2002, Mr. Curley teaches and
advises young people the value of focusing on attaining life-skills
as well as becoming goal-oriented. Mr. Curley enjoys listening to
a wide variety of music and viewing old television classics.

James Pendergrast, Coordinator in
the Division of Adult and Continuing Education at LaGuardia Community
College. He was born in Augusta, Ga. and educated in New York City
public school system. He served in U.S. Air Force and then attended
and graduated from New York University. In early years, his responsibilities
included teaching academic and business courses in nonprofit and
proprietary schools. Over the last 12 years, he has coordinated
and taught in programs within ACE. These various commitments have
thoroughly influenced the preparation of generations interested
in upgrading their skills or starting over in new careers -- He
also cheers for the Kansas City Chiefs and is a boxing aficionado.

Elaine Merchant, a native of Queens, New York,
a graduate in paralegal studies from LaGuardia Community College.
Employed as an Administrative Assistant in youth programs of the
Workforce Education Center at LaGuardia, since 1999. Elaine
has worked with the Summer Youth Program, which help youth acquire
a working responsibility and etiquette. She also works with
the 17-20 year olds who are trying to obtain their GED, and further
their education. |

TYRONE FORD

Tyrone Ford, Coordinator for the
Workforce Education Center's Youth Programs is a native New Yorker
and Bronx resident. Tyrone attended SUNY College at Old Westbury
where he received his B.A. in Comparative Humanities. He has been
employed at LaGuardia Community College for ten (10) years and says
that he is very happy that he has the opportunity to realize his
passion everyday: working with youth. As a visually impaired person
of color, Tyrone believes that with clear thought, good direction
and solid adult support, there isn’t anything that young people
can’t strive for and accomplish.

Joanne Schumm, Administrative Assistant, an employee
of LaGuardia Community College for about six (6) years. She received
an Associate in Accounting from LaGuardia/CUNY and is a Candidate
for a Bachelors in Accounting at Baruch/CUNY. Ms. Schumm assists
with various programs for youth and adults.

twenty five years of experience in the medical billing field. Ms.

and is currently working towards a Bachelor's of Science in Business. |

John J. Wesley , the coordinator of the Workforce
Education Center's Customer Service training, has returned to LaGuardia
after a hiatus of several years. Mr. Wesley, who has a BA in Political
Science from Trinity College, Hartford CT., is a public relations
specialist. A former Executive Director and, currently, an active
member of 100 Black Men of New York, Mr. Wesley enjoys travel and
fine restaurants and is an entrepreneur.

Julie Sterling, BA Psychology, Mary Washington
College of the University of Virginia,Certificate in Microapplication
Systems, Family Institute/ACE, LaGuardia Community College Employed
by the WEC since May 1996, she has worked on various grant funded
training programs. Currently, she works with Dianna Moll, RN, MPH
on the Certified Nurse Aide Training (CNA) Program recruiting, registering,
assisting students with short-term goal setting skills and career
planning, resume writing and interview skills. On an as needed basis,
she provides referral information and contacts regarding support
services and other learning/training opportunities that better match
a given goal or personal situation. In addition, she created and
maintains the CNA student database; monitors attendance, provides
census data to ACE and provides weekly program reports and statistics
to the program coordinator, Dianna Moll, RN, MPH and WEC's director,

I am native of Colombia, and have been working at LaGuardia Community
College for the past nine years, I received my Accounting Degree
from SENA, , Medellin, Colombia. I am enthusiastic about working

PAMELA JUDKINS

Pamela Judkins started working for what was originally
the Family Institute in January 2003. She is the Follow-Up Counselor
for the in-school-youth program. Ms.Judkins also serves as the job
developer for the Summer Youth Employment Program. She is a life
long resident of Bedford-Stuyvesant in Brooklyn. She enjoys reading,
sampling different cuisines, and enjoying the company of her only
granddaughter. Ms. Judkins has a Bachelor’s degree in Social
Science from the College of New Rochelle. She hopes to obtain her
Master’s in Public Administration.
